One of my favourite events is motorcycle racing, and when it comes to motorcycles, they don’t come any more powerful and adrenaline inducing as motoGP.

Chris Vermuelen displaying that cornering isn’t just knees, but also elbows. I was very fortunate enough to get into the photographers area to get this shot. Unfortunately Indy is not a photo friendly track, most likely due to the fact that it is built with cars in mind….. a lot of barriers and fencing. The photographer areas have cutouts in the fence that can be open or closed by track officials to allow for photographers, but unfortunately, without the proper credentials or the ability to talk your way in, it’s very hard to gain access.

A couple of Ducati reps. Not too sure how much they could tell you about the bikes, but really, does it matter.

This is AMA superstar rider Ben Spies post motoGP race. Something of a Cinderella story, Ben was invited to ride for the Rizla Suzuki team for both American GP races. Based on his results in both, I would say he has a future in MotoGP. However, from what I’ve read to date, nobody has picked him up.

The number 1 rider in the world, EVER! Valentino Rossi after race exiting the racers area. It was this inaugural race at Indy that put him in the record books for Pole position in first ever MotoGP race, winner of inaugural race, and put him ahead of Giacomo Agostini’s 30 year record of 68 MotoGP wins to the new record of 69 wins, and a virtual clinch of the MotoGP championship.

Former world champion Nicky Hayden on his repsol Honda during some of the Saturday morning practice session.

Valentino Rossi also putting his Yamaha through it’s paces on Saturday morning.

An icon in US motorcyle racing Colin Edwards putting in laps as the sun started pushing through during Saturday afternoon qualifying.

These were a couple of the 250 class machines blasting their way around the course. Some very exciting machines to watch, unfortunatly they did not get to race on Sunday as the weather was just brutal with wind gusts upwards of 60 mph, these guys never even had the chance to run. Even the marquee race was red flagged with just over half the race complete.
Even with the red flagging of the premier class race on lap 20 of 28 the results of their last laps were accepted as the finishing results. Giving point leader Valentino Rossi the win, Nicky Hayden second, and one of my other favourite riders Jorge Lorenzo third.
Overall despite the Hurrican Ike like conditions, it was amazing to be part of this history, and despite somewhat limited access to good photo locations, I was still happy overall with the quality of captures I did get.
